We’ve been catching up on episodes of HBO’s new hit series, “VEEP” and it’s quickly becoming one of our favorite new situational comedies. Julia Louis-Dreyfus — stepping out of her previous incarnations — is deadpan hilarious as the somewhat blundering Vice President of the United States, Selina Meyer. Her staff is equally ridiculous in their exploits as they all try to continually react to the fast-paced changing landscape of Washington politics. The dialogue is quick, snippy, and sometimes just utterly vulgar, but with the slickness of the “VEEP‘s” delivery, it’s the awkward moments that follow which make this show so appealing.
With a President that never seems to call and a staff that is as incompetent as they are competent, Julia Louis-Dreyfus‘ character is all her own — the second-most powerful person in the world without a clue of what she’s doing. It perfectly captures the ins and outs of Washington politics, the back-stabbing and deal-making, and the confusion that comes with everyday conversation there.
The first season has already aired, but episodes are available online, so we highly suggest that you get started watching. HBO has picked up the series for a second season, and we’re hoping that this becomes one of their signature shows…
