First reaction? Oh-no-Oh-no-Oh-no-Oh-no-Oh-no-Oh-no-Oh-no-Oh-no-Oh-no-Oh-no…
After watching the trailer: Oh re-hee-hee-heeallllly?
Have a look for yourself…
Disney‘s interest in L. Frank Baum‘s Oz series stretches all the way back to 1937, when they originally tried to adapt the books into an animated feature. This project was blocked, as the rights to Baum’s estate were sold to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, which resulted in the now infamous live-action film starring Judy Garland. Throughout the years, Disney has tried various projects, none of which have successfully stuck… until now.
Adapting the original 1900 publication, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” — the first book in the series — Disney has put together an all-star cast and an all-star director. And although it isn’t set for release until March of 2013, the trailer has everyone’s mouths watering over this revamped approach at the iconic brand.
So, without committing much more opinion on the matter, I’m going to pause here and say that my current mood on the project is “Cautiously Excited”…
