HBO has had a long-standing history of producing thought-provoking, utterly addictive television programming. Whether we like to admit it or not, shows like “Sex and the City“, “The Sopranos“, and “Six Feet Under” have somehow shaped society’s cultural perception of sex, family, marriage, and gender in some way or another.

And when those shows concluded, there was a definite hole in our Sunday night schedule.

Enter Aaron Sorkin‘s wonderbaby, “The Newsroom“. Starring Jeff Daniels as a struggling anchor, who, along with his staff jump into the deep end of news reporting despite harsh criticism and obstacles from both the network and their sponsors. With Emily Mortimer, Dev Patel, Sam Waterston, and Jane Fonda supporting, this may be the one new show the cuts above the rest.
