A friend and fellow blogger recently had this to say about Lana Del Rey:
“Dear indie world: Lana Del Rey isn’t nearly as interesting as you want her to be.”
I can’t help but agree with him.
Regardless, I also think there’s a whole heck of talent there and although she’s only released two singles off her upcoming debut album thus far – the moody “Video Games” and the slow burning “Born to Die” – the jury is still currently out on Miss Del Rey altogether, so we’re reserving our full opinion for later.
For now, what do you think of her?
I first heard the song on an episode of “Ringer” (which by the way, is a pretty cool show) and was immediately drawn to her lazy, raspy vocals. The 70’s So-Cal glamour schtick may get old quickly, and her desperate moaning on about hopeless love affairs may lack longevity, but at the end of the day we’re not buying an image, we’re buying talent.
Or are we?
Eh. More to come on this one… once we’ve actually formulated an opinion on her. In the meantime, her album, entitled “Born to Die” is due out the 30th of January.
