It had been a long while since I heard Roberta Flack‘s classic love song. Well, until this afternoon that is. It was featured on a TV commercial today, and when I heard it from the other room, it hit me square in the chest. Then about an hour later I read online that someone on the X Factor in the UK performed it last night to rave reviews. (If you ask me, it was a pretty awful rendition.)
Still, Roberta Flack’s version IS the definitive version, and it remains a beautiful and powerful song even today. Certainly stopped me in the middle of my day and caught my attention.

YES!!! LOVE THIS SONG!!!! Roberta Flack’s version is soulful, it’s raspy, it’s honest. And, yes, it hits me in the chest EVERY DAMN TIME.

It’s SO where I am right now Thom, it’s scary! Even almost 40 years after it was released, that song is still relevant and amazing. Testament to what a truly fantastic piece of art it is!!! Thanks for commenting…
